Where Can I Find Phil?

Phil has been layed to rest at Kingwood Memorial Park (off of Route 23 just north of Powell Road) in the Whispering Waters section. He is near the bridge, the running water and the water fountain. It is a beautiful and serene setting… a wonderful place to visit, meditate or just relax.

I saw a mention of you on Bearalums.com. I thought the name sounded familiar and as I was reading through some of the comments, I realized that not only are we “BEARS”, we also have friends in common! To start with, Bill W. then Megan and Cole, Terry and Heidi, among others.
Dan and I just want you to know that you are in our prayers, and that we will keep you there continually through your recovery ;)

  12. Hey Phil;

My office is less than a block from Grant Hospital. So now everyday as I turn down E. Mound St. I get out of myself and pray for you. Looking forward to visiting you during my lunch hour when you are receiving visitors again.

    Deborah

  13. Great news on your move. It sounds like you are progressing to be moved so quickly from the hospital to rehab. I look forward to visiting…we have alot of conversation to catch up on! :-)

    Stay strong, stay positive.

  14. I was saddened to hear of your accident and hold you in my thoughts and prayers. I really enjoyed getting to know you at SVI a few years ago. I have been in the “place” where you are right now. We all go through our own pain and suffering to one degree or another over the course of our lives. Know that with God all things are possible! One day at a time you will get through this. Keep the faith. I hope to see you soon.

  15. Good morning Phil,

Glad to hear you are at Dodd now. You and your family remain in our daily thoughts and prayers.

    Bill and Kathleen

  16. Philly, I’m here for you now just like the begining. Know I love you very much…as we all do.

  17. Phil,

Jules, Darienne and I all think the world of you! I find myself checking into this site several times a day.

Use your strength to help you with your rehab, and I will meet you at my Mom’s house again when I come home over the holidays!
    Fondly, Leigh Ann

  18. Hello Phil, Stephanie and the Henry Family

  25. Phil,
Since I heard of your accident, you have been and will remain in my prayers. I cannot imagine what your going through Try to stay positive and work hard at Dodd. We are really blessed to have Dodd Hall in Columbus. It has been recognized nationally as a center of excellence and the doctors there are highly skilled. I was planning on visiting you this weekend at Grant but will come to Dodd when you are accepting visitors. Kate Oakley Leaver is out of town this week but she would like to visit with you as well. Hang in there Phil and know that many, many people are praying for you.
    Fondly,
    Mary McGlone Myklebust

  26. We would like to echo what so many of these nice people are writing to you, Phil. It is now a week and a day and I am sure we will keep finding ourselves thinking about you and hoping for the best you for many more weeks and days. We know that physical therapy/rehab is very hard work and we have also heard that Dodd is nationally known and ranked. May you have the very best possible outcome from your hard work. Rob, Maurisa, Kay and Carlo

  27. Hi Cousin Fuff-
Sending Colorado energy your way as you undergo rehab. We were so sorry to hear of your accident but know with your physical and mental strength you will heal!
Work hard in therapy and don’t give those therapists too much grief- they only have your outcome in mind.
Glad you got to get outside too!
    Robin, Dan, Seth and Jenny

  28. Uncle Phil- No, it’s not your nephew again but me, Ed Avery. Believe it or not, I’m speechless. I wish I could come and see you and hang by but I know it’s best for you to focus on many important tasks and rest. They’ll be plenty of time later for that.

I’m so glad your body was in the condition it was before your fall. It’s hard to believe Phil but you do have a big leg up on re-hab as basically, you had pre-hab. You were as ready for this as anyone could be. I was in a pretty good auto crash in 90 (guy ran a red light @ Kenny and Lane and T-boned me) and suffered a terrific head injury. During my recovery I was repeatedly told, “if you weren’t in the shape you were, this would be much more difficult”. The same holds true for you. I know you’ll crank through this better than anyone.

I’m fairly certain I’m going to go back to school to become a PT assistant (2 yr commitment), which will compliment my personal training nicely. Here’s the deal, you work with the pros until then, get well and I’ll be ready for you. We’ll re-hab more, workout and take you as far as you want to go.

Be strong, dig down deep and keep fighting Phil. I’ll be waiting.

    GO BEARS!!

    Ed

  29. Dear Phil and Family,
You are all in our thoughts. Someone told me
one time to forget about the plans that didn’t seem
to work out right, but don’t forget to always have
a dream. Sometimes you don’t realize how strong
you can be until you are forced to show it. We
are sending you all our love and support to help
make you strong even when you think you can
    not go another day.
    Love, The Anderson’s

  30. We check your web-site often to keep up on your progress! You have a wonderful family and support group. Our painting skills would ruin your business, but if you need any office help or if we can help by being gophers instead of beavers (joke) , just let us know. Dud and Diane Beaver

  31. Cousin Phil,
I will not tell you “he has a plan.” I personally do not believe in “plans.” I have had many conversations with the big G and believe me I’ve waited on hold and left him many voice mails! No metion of plans, etc. The only “plan” is your will. It is in your hands.

    Now is the time.
    You WILL prevail.

    My strength and belief,
    Cousin Christine

  32. Phil

We are all pulling for you! Stay postive and strong. “I guess when your heart gets broken you sort of start to see cracks in everything. I’m convinced that tragedy wants to harden us and our mission is never to let it.”

If there is anything I can do to help you through this transition all you have to do is ask

You are in my thoughts and prayers

    Godspeed

    Taylor Hunt

  33. Phil – Megan, Kuyper, Duke and I have been keeping you in our prayers since we learned of the accident. The boys would like to take you up on a game of hoops when you are ready! Please know that we are thinking of you and that we are willing and ready to do whatever we can to assist you and your family. When you are ready to convene the “Dodd Hall” group please let me know, there is a group of us who are ready to come and visit. God Bless.

  34. Cousin Phil,
I believe in you. The outdoors will be your best therapy of all. Cannot stop thinking of your unsinkable outlook and strong spirit.

    Find the peace,
    Christine

  35. Good day Phil! We just had a customer in our showroom who is wheelchair bound (25 yrs.) I was telling him about your accident. I told him you had feeling in your legs and all…He said, ” I pretty much have a good feeling that HE will walk again”! I wanted to share this positive story with you. He has a great attitude and is convinced that he will awaken one day and will not be confined to his chair. TTYL, Hope all is going well. CT

  36. phil we are all praying for you. keep fighting!

  37. Hey Phil,

    Geez…I haven’t heard Fuff in Years….
Jake & I want to come out and see you…let us know when.

You’re my last thought and prayer before I go to bed.
Other than the fact that I wish I didn’t sleep in a hot smelly shed with 2 Dogs.
    Keep On Keepin’ On,
    Love,
    Gary L.K.
    P.S. Thanks Meg

  38. Hi Phil,
I am so very sorry about your accident, and I wish you the very best.

Don’t worry about the painting–Scott and crew and on the job. You just concentrate on healing. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
    Marcie Anderson
    Berwyn Rd.

  39. Phil,
We all are thinking of you daily. Life at times deals you a crappy hand, those with perserverance are those that succeed despite the odds. The character of a man is not measured when all things are going his way, but how well that man continues to fight when all things seem to be going wrong. You are one of the strongest people I know Phil, and this too shall pass.
Stay focused Phil, our prayers are with you.

Jeff, Jen, Kate and soon to be Jack (The NC Henry Clan)

  40. Phil,
I like Philsfight much better than “site”. It’s fitting. I know you are one stubborn fighter (: As always your strength, determination, perseverance and positive spirits together with all the wonderful support of family, friends and even strangers you have had are and will continue be key. I am very glad that’s there for you!!
If there is anything I can do now or later,
please (!) let me know champ.
You are and will be in my thoughts!!
    Sincerely,
    The Wolverine (:

  41. Hi Phil,
Do you remember me from Meggies little Fishinger Elementary friends? My memories of hanging out with your family are very precious to me! You are people so full of life!! Your parents were so wonderful to me (Go Cougars!) and Megan was such a dear friend! I loved you all and wished you were my family!! (No disrespect to my family!) I am so angry this happened to you. I hope you are angry too because that will give you FIRE for your recovery! You are well loved I see by this web site…what an enormous blessing. Look for 5 things to be thankful for each day — no matter how small. Someone told me this when I was in “God’s waiting room” at one point in my life and it helped me keep looking for the silver lining and the unexpected gifts that come on the fringes of heartbreaking events. I will pray for your recovery and hold you and your family in my heart.
    With love, Cindi Shaffer (Hostetler)

  42. Dear Phil,
We were so shocked to hear about your unfortunate accident. We want you to know that we are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.
    Ted & Mary Schwartz

  43. Hello Phil and the Henry Family. We are staying in prayer for all of you. Phil, I continue to send you positive vibes and energy to get through the rehab. Eventhough it may be different than your past work outs it is still a work out so attack it the same!!! Keep up the good work and continue to get fresh air, as you know it keeps the mind fresh!!!
I saw this scripture and thought I would share it with you:
We look not at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen: for what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal.
    2 Corinthians 4:18

Your strong heart, mind, soul and faith is what will get you through. Stay in prayer, much love, Deneen and Kendall Day and the King Ave. UMC family.

  44. Phil,
It was wonderful to see you Friday. Thanks for letting us invade your family time. We are both so impressed with the hard work you are doing in recovery and your amazing attitude. God is absolutely at work in your life and in your situation. He has you in the palm of His hand.

I know you know this, but the power of the Word is infinite, so I’ll share it anyway: Romans 8: “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any created thing shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus.”

We are praying that God would show you how to take this truth and apply it in your life today, so that it comes to life and you get a deeper appreciation for the depth of His love for you. On a practical note, we also pray that you would be able to sleep really well tonight and wake up rested and energized.

    See you soon.
    Stephanie and Keith

BTW, tell Megan that she kicked ass on this website. Great idea!

  45. Hi Phil and the whole Henry gang,
I have been following your daily progress (thanks Meg) and it is wonderful to see how many people are keeping you in their thoughts and prayers. You will have ups and downs, as we all do, so look up, look ahead. You WILL come out of this all right.

    Robin

  49. Hi Phil and Henry Family!
I hope your week has been off to a better start.
Megan, thanks so much for keeping us informed.
I check your site daily and think of all of you constantly.
May God continue to take care of all of you.
Sending you lots of love from Illinois,
    Your cousin,
    Tricia

  50. Hi Phil and the Henry Family,

As I spent the past weekend spending time with Phil and the Henry family it quickly confirmed what I already new about this incredible family. Their love and support and the will to make the best of a difficult situation is outstanding.

Something else that I noticed was how many people love Phil , his room at The Dodd Center is filled with cards, flowers and well wishes from so many people.

    Phil,
It was great to spend time with you and I and wish that I could have stayed longer. Stay strong, keep smiling and remember that there are so many people in your corner !!!

    Lots of Love,
    Jack K

  51. Phil – I am a classmate of your Aunt Mary Lou Krallman from St Joe’s, and friend of your Mother and aunts as well. Keeping you in my prayers for recovery from this most difficult injury. Stay strong and keep your faith in God’s goodness. We never know what plans He has for us, not always on our time frame, but He knows best. How wonderful that you have such a large, supportive family – that means so much. Know that many of the Sisters of Notre Dame and Alumnae from St. Joe’s have you in their prayers as well.
I will watch your progress. God bless.
    Kathy Puccetti

  52. Phil, you are a remarkable young man! and I admire your courage in trying daily to improve your difficult situation; you are still young and full of high spirit and energy. So, I know great things are supposed to happen to you still! Our prayers are always with you, as my husband had a bad fall followed by a brain surgery and months of therapy and treatments, a few years ago. He couldn’t smell, hear and most importantly taste anything for a long time. You can, at least, enjoy your food, and you are going to come out of this hardship with flying color! Love & prayers from Barbara, Brad and Stephanie Richardson

  53. Hey Uncle Phil,
I just wanted to let you know that I have been thinking alot about you. I was very happy that i could come and see you in Ohio. I have been praying for your recovery and I miss you alot. I also want to pick up the guitar and take some lessons so I will be able to play a song with you someday. I am just really happy that it is still the same Uncle Phil that I love.

    Love,
    Paige.

  54. Phil,
Jim gave me the news a couple days ago and I want you to know you’ve got another person thinking of and praying for you. I’ll be thinking of you alot and keeping up to date on this site, looks like you have alot of support and people behind you which shows the person you are.
    Take care of yourself,
    Brad Taylor

  57. Hey Philly
I have written you so many times but only in my head, and now that I am finally on the computer I’m not sure what to say. I’ve had all kinds of angry, sad, hopeful, spiritual, ….thoughts concerning you. But from talking to your family you have so much more clarity than I. Phil you really amaze me!!! I always knew you were strong inside and out, but man……. You have so much inner wisdom – You know your challenges, you’re confident to conquer this mountain and you know life is the journey God gifts to us. You have shown so much grace. Your Family is so proud of you. They always say “Phil is showing us how to be strong.”

By the way: You are a terrific gardener. Things look good
and Man, Is Gary so f/n funny!!!!!!! Love the one about sleeping w/the dogs.
    Wishing you comfortable sleep!
    Cousin Nan

  58. Phil, the Stone family sends their best to you with our thoughts and prayer’s especially from your friend, Joe. The Stonebryd’s played in Mt. Vernon recently and Rusty & Gina were in the audience. Your dad told Joe last w/e that you had started playing the guitar so Joe wants you to know that he would be happy to play with you as well as visit whenever you feel like it. Tell Megan we appreciate having the website to keep in touch and I have your dad’s reports as well. I called your barber, Dave, right after your accident because I knew you were in his chair the day before and that is when I last saw you. Best regards, and keep the faith. dick & family

  59. Dear Cuz,
I have been reading all of your messages- you do have an army behind you! I spoke with your Mom-Aunt Nancy. She was on the way to see you after church last Sunday. We talked, laughed, and shared a “Mom moment.” You will always be her “baby.” Trevor always mine. No matter your age, location , status, etc. You have such a wonderful family around you and the friendships shine with geniuine love. I too have great respect for you. Visiting Ohio as a young child, I always knew your smile of warmth and quiet yet open love was present. You continue to ignight my attention, respect, and wonder. I have always been in awe of all of you “Ohio Henrys.” Going the distance, backpacking, traveling, and exploring. I said earlier that I did not believe in “plans.” I do believe in God, his faith, and his unconditional love. I also find that will, self-belief, and courage is what helps us now, here on this earth. Faith combined with personal will= Success. You are destined now just as before.

    Lovingly,
    Cuz Christine

ps Mother Teresa said, “I know God won’t give me anything I cannot handle. I just wish he didn’t trust me so much.”

(I refer to this plaque often)

  60. Dear Phil:

I doubt you’ll recognize my name, but I used to see you at Caribou and the “other” places we hang out. I was in Washington state when Ed (my husband) told me of your fall and I just felt stunned. Life is often difficult to comprehend.

But now I’m home and I see this website and read the way you and your family and friends are rallying and I’m amazed and simply awed at the love and support our community has to offer when any of us is in need.

Don’t know what I can do to help. I’ll click that tab next and see if there’s a volunteer activity I can handle. Best of luck and know that you and your family continue to be in my thoughts daily. lots of love, Nita

  61. Needless to say my shock when our congregation was aked to pray for Phil Henry at Broad Street Presbyterian Church this morning.

    Love,
Craig, Charlene, Jay, Marion, Amanda, Doug & Grant

  62. Just sending out my prayers to you and the family. Phil Henry Class of 87

  63. Phil, I just learned of your website. Our family talks about you all the time, we pray for you and the kids pray for you at night time. My discipleship group has lifted you up for the last few weeks every Tuesday afternoon. From this website, I know the Spirit of the Lord will let us know what you need us to pray for specifically. What a blessing your family and your extended family of community is to you.

I keep praying that you can see His mercies for you every day. It is just each day that He gives us our portion for. We can’t and He doesn’t want us to look ahead for what we will need. One of my favorite verses is Lamentations 3:23–His mercies our new every morning. Great is His Faithfulness.

    With love in Christ,
    Jamie Davis

  88. HI Phil,
How are you doing? What’s going on back there in UA?
    Love, LA

  89. Hi, Phil.
I was sitting at work debating — start grading research papers or visit Phil’s blog. The winner is…YOU.

Like every Midwesterner, I am so tired of dirty snow and grey days. I know you mentioned before what a pain the snow and slush is for you to maneuver in with your wheelchair. I hope Columbus is a little warmer than here, and that the start of March brings some warmer temperatures, so you can get out and about more often.

I know all you crazy Buckeyes revere your football season, but in the O’Neil household March Madness has always been the most sacred sporting event. Wearing a black armband for Bobby Knight’s retirement, Uncle Bill is sharpening his pencil for the pools and adjusting the color on the tv already. Although when we were kids he used to take all three of us girls to the park for basketball drills, sadly, we never perfected a lay-up and usually ended up running home, crying, and begging CJ to tell Dad to leave us alone. While Megan would have been his dream daughter, I did, however, inherit his gene for gambling, and I actually love watching the games, so we can hardly wait the remaining week and a half for the brackets to be revealed.

Sadly, that’s about all from the Windy City. Would love to hear what’s going on in your world. As always, wishing you the best!

    Love,
    Jill

  90. Jill,

Good point, everyone knows that Phil is a Professor of Hoopology, perhaps he could share is Final Four with us folks with gambling problems.

    Flipo-
I need some teams help a cousin out.

Take care and much Love !!

    Jack, Kelly and girls

  91. Good Morning, Phil!
I hope some of the snow Columbus recently received has melted and you will soon see some signs of Spring. We have had a few warm days, and it is so refreshing! Hope your days get warmer and brighter!
My parents were so happy to see you while they were in Columbus. I wish I was able to come too, or visit with your mother while she was here, but I was unable to.
    Have a Happy Easter!
Always thinking of you and praying for you,
    Tricia

  92. Phil,
I just came across this website. No, I’m not stalking you, I was just sitting here thinking about you. You are often in my thoughts and prayers. I hope your recovery is progressing and that you and all your wonderful family are being strengthened by our great God! I don’t know why I have not mentioned this before but I work just around the corner from you at Riverside. If there is ever anything that you need just give me call – I will do what I can to help. (306-9099). Take care….Paul

  93. Hi there Mr. Phil!!

It’s been awhile since I send you a friendly ‘hello’ and I thought I would take a break from my work load to check in on you!

I’m sure you are anxiously awaiting this darn rainy weather to pass, I know I am. I want some clean smelling fresh spring air…ahhhh, I can almost smell it now!

I hope you are doing well, I hope that life is coming along for you & that mentally you are doing well.

Easter is just around the corner…chocolate bunny ears to bite off, malted eggs and jelly beans to tempt our sweet tooth, but the sweetest part of this Easter season is the complete and total forgiveness of ALL our sins…(Ok, now that is a huge gift, wouldn’t you say?) So, for those of us that “get” what Easter is about, well by cracky, let’s share it with others! And those that don’t “get” it…well, try any church service this Sunday morning and you might just be surprised with the wonderful message being sent your way!

…and as always…I will leave you with thoughts to ponder….

Our life is full of brokenness – broken relationships, broken promises, broken expectations. How can we live with that brokenness without becoming bitter and resentful except by returning again and again to God’s faithful presence in our lives.

    Henri Nouwen

Peace to you this Easter Phil…and amen!

    Kate

  94. Phil –
Go X! Go Louisville! If we can just get some of these #1 teams knocked off. I love Davidson, but was disappointed in Butler getting mugged by Tennessee. Good luck the rest of the way –
    Great seeing you!
    Uncle Bill

  95. Phil,

Just wanted to drop a line and say hi, we think of everyday and hope each day gets a little easier for you.

How are your brackets doing ?

    Take care bud !!

    Jack Krallman

  96. Phil,
I have been hopping onto this site almost daily, seeing your handsome face, but haven’t written. I am thinking of you , and will call you to catch up.

I’m leaving Friday, and spending the weekend at a monastery in the hills of Washington state.
It is a peaceful place . You will be in my prayers there, Phil.
    Love, Leigh Ann

  97. Hen,

How is the band sounding? I burned a CD and it’s been sitting on my shelf forever (I’ve got to work on the procrastination thing). I’ll give you a call and drop in to catch up.

I hope you picked the tourney teams better than I did… if it’s cold tomorrow I’m gong to use it as kindling.

    Peace,

    Tut

  98. and another thing, I know who Cinderella is, but what does she have to do with basketball? I could swear that she was a girly girl.

  99. Hen,

    Maybe next year…

    Tut

  101. Hi Phil,
Jeff & I have thought & prayed for you often over the past year. I just received the email from you sister this week with your webpage & wanted to wish you the best. I have read your latest blog & I think it’s inspiring how active you still are (I’ve heard stories about you!) ha ha It sounds like your recovery is going well! I hope that we will cross paths one day… you are an inspiration to many! God bless!

    Jen Henry

  102. phil
You are as popular as I had expected. You are quit an amazing man! As life throws us some unwanted curve balls at least christ threw us family. I will pray for you dear friend and hope that you feel in better spirits soon. Healing begins on the inside. GOOD LUCK. If ever you get bored I am just a email away. stephanie

  103. Phil – it has been some time since receiving any news on this blog – I’ve been inquiring through your sister, and the other day talked to Yvonne Perotti – I understand that you are dealing with some new problems and I’m sorry to hear that. You have continued to be in my daily prayers since the first time I learned of your accident and altho’ my husband’s long battle with a brain tumor, and his passing just 4 months ago occupied my mind,I still wished for you renewed healing and strength. I am adding some special prayers and novena to look for success in eliminating this last problem. You have been through so much and I know it has been so difficult for you, and for your family as well. God’s schedule is not always ours, but stay strong and faithful – He will bring you through it.
Love and prayers, Kathy Puccetti, your Mom and Aunts friend from St Joe’s

  104. Phil, my prayers are with you and your family. I pray all find peace during this difficult time. I am not sure what I could offer to be of benefit. But to you and the family, if there is anything musically I could do to help you, please family let me know. I would be glad to come over and play/or sing for Phil. Phil was a great guy. I knew him thru TaeKwonDo at UALC.
    God Bless the Henry Family.
    John Estep

  105. To the Phil family,

I did not know Phil personally, but do know his father. I work in the same office at HER. I pray for a peace that passes all understanding for you all. Rely on God to be your strength, fortress and stronghold.

Praying in the wings for you and Phil.

    Gods Blessings upon you all.

    Tammy Lewis

  106. I can’t imagine what you are all going through but just keep thinking of Cami’s remarks about Phil being able to walk in heaven. Phil has been so blessed by his family and friends and has clearly made this world a better place. He will be at peace in heaven and his journey a testimony of faith, love and compassion. I am praying for all of you.

  107. I’ll always remember Phil’s reflection.

  108. I wanted to express my sincere gratitude for all the time Megan and anyone else who kept this site going so that all of those who’s lives were touched by Phil could have the opportunity to keep not only updated but in communication with him. God bless you all and I know God is embracing his new angel in heaven with all the blessings and heavenly rewards Phil deserves.
    Thank you
